Our new house!

Aa promised, here are a few pictures of Wesley enjoying his new house. The top two are actually the same pic, the top one is just a close up crop of #2. The third one was just an attempt to get a nice picture of his eyes, still one blue one and one brown one. The doctor said if it was still like that at nine months, it would probably stay that way. Well, we have 2 more weeks before it's official. I wonder what he'll put on his driver's license under eye color?

Wash, Rinse, Repeat

Wesley's friend Alexander is in a different daycare and they had "splash day" this week. It sounded like fun, so I gave Wesley his bath outside this afternoon in the privacy of our back deck today. I think he had fun. Most of the pictures I took he was looking down playing with his toys in the water. These are some of the more interesting pictures. Enjoy!

I heart Fisher Price

The make some GREAT products that we have loved so far and their customer support is AWESOME! We aren't using his swing anymore, but a couple months ago I noticed it wasn't swinging as well as it once did. I called the company and they instantly shipped a new motor for it. We have the Fisher Price Space Saver high chair and the only draw back it had over the other high chairs was that it didn't have an extra tray. I looked on their website and they had replacement trays for only five dollars! Shipping was only three dollars! I would gladly have paid a few dollars more and was pleasantly suprised by how inexpensive the shipping was.

Now, Wesley does have a lot of toys and we have been extremely fortunate to have been given many of them. I have also aquired a few of them thanks to my money saving websites. So, I can honestly say we haven't spent a lot of money on toys. There is one toy I was interested in aquiring, the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn House. But, it is seventy dollars and even with my coupons, I just couldn't justify the cost. I've been brousing on Craig's List and baby toys are popular objects for resale. It took a couple weeks, but I found one for twenty five!!! The lowest price I had seen previously was fourty! The only drawback... no accessories. I thought to myself, Fisher Price has awesome customer support and, sure enough, they sell the accessories for five dollars (with three dollars shipping). So, for about thirty dollars I got the toy I wanted for Wesley. I was wiping it down with clorox and I'll try to get some pics of him playing in it this weekend.

Swipers

Who would have thought that Wesley would find an ordinary baby wipe so fascinating? After meals, I wipe Wesley's hands and face with a Swiper, which just happens to be a brand name baby wipe. Lately I have been letting him play with the swiper as I finish cleaning up after meals. He seemed to fuss when I tried to take it away, so I let him hang onto it when we took him over to play after dinner. We have so many toys for him, with so many bright colors, interesting textures and such fun sounds. It amazes me how a cheap piece of damp paper just seemed to hold his interest. He held onto it as he crawled around and went from toy to toy. Ahhh... the simple things in life.

Still sick!

It seems like he has been sick forever, but I know that is not the case. When we got home from daycare yesterday, Greg said Wesley felt warm. We checked his temperature and it was 100.9. I paged the pediatrician and it was decided Wesley would go back to the doctor's office in the morning if the fever continued through the night. Needless to say, when he woke up at 4:45 am, his temperature was 102.3, I gave him some Tylenol (again) and a couple hours later it was 103.7. I called and we went right over to the office. The doctor decided to give him a shot of antibiotics (Rocephin) and we need to go back tomorrow for another shot. Well... the shot ws divided into two doses because it is too large for his little muscles, so he got TWO shots. My poor little guy. It just breaks my heart to see him sick. I wish there was more we could do for him.

In the meantime, I only gave him his favorite foods, bananas and apples, for dinner. He seemed so tired and cranky, I didn't want to "push" him to eat any of the things he doesn't prticularly care for. The peas will be there in a few days.

'cause you gotta have friends

Wesley is the only boy in the infant room at daycare. He is quite the ladies man.

Wesley assured me that I'm the only woman in his life... for now!

Clean House

I feel guilty. I sent Wesley to daycare today so I could clean the house. It isn't perfect, but I feel so much better. The bathrooms are clean, I vacuumed and did the dishes. I organized some of my closet and drawers that have been overflowing. I feel bad about having Wesley in daycare on a day I'm not working... it is my job to take care of him. But, I needed to get this house in order and at least he is playing and having fun and I'm not ignoring him. Mom guilt is the worst!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

It wasn't a very exciting day, mostly because it is a weeknight and both Daddy and baby are sick. Hopefully we'll have more of a celebration this weekend.

Not quite yet...

Wesley completed his 10 day course of Amoxicillin on Sunday. Unfortunately, his runny nose and fever returned on Saturday. We called the pediatrician on Saturday and they asked us to bring him in to the office today, Monday. Needless to say, the doctor checked him out and both his ears are still infected. We got a prescription for a different antibiotic and we're hoping the new stuff will do the trick.

Look at me!

He did it! He pulled himself up into a standing position! What a big boy! Usually he is just up on his knees. I was playing on the computer and he just happened to get into the standing position. Since I had been using my camera earlier, it was sitting next to me, so I snapped a few pics. Doesn't he look proud of himself! Then it was fun to see what would happen next. How will he get back down?

He kinda went into a split and at that point I put the camera down. He turned one leg in and ended up on his butt with one leg straight out. Thankfully he didn't hit the table with his face. I was right there, so that would not have happened anyway, but wow... you just can't turn away even for a second! Maybe we should set up a playyard.

The Wesley Shark

Owie!

Learning to crawl has broadened Wesley's whole world! Gone are the days where he will just sit and play. I'll put him on the floor with a few toys and that will last all of a minute. Then he'll scoot to the coffee table and try to pull himself up a few times, try to crawl under the coffee table, make his way over to the TV stand and start pulling on the doors. Unfortunately, he is very headstrong and uses his head as a battering ram. Needless to say, Wesley has to learn to work on his coordination and balance. This has lead to a few bumps and bruises on his forehead.

Now, we are working on baby proofing the house. The electrical covers have been up for a long while and the safety gate has been in front of the stairs for a couple weeks. We were letting him go in the cabinet under the TV, but he kept opening the doors into his face and head! He was also coming precariously close to closing the doors on his fingers, so we opted to keep the doors locked. Greg and I are always supervising him, but he has still gotten his share of bumps and bruises just from pulling himself up and then unexpectedly lunging forward. Hopefully he'll get a little more coordinated real soon!
Watch out Murphy! Here I come!

MMmmm Banana!

To date, this is the list of foods Wesley has been introduced to:
Rice Cereal
Banana
Avocado
Sweet Potato
Prunes
Oatmeal
Peas
Pears
Yogurt
Winter Squash
Green Beans
Peaches
Carrots

Of course, he has his favorites... bananas and sweet potatos go over like gangbusters! Prunes, peaches, avocado, winter squash and carrots also go over well. He DOES NOT like peas or green beans, though we do keep trying! Everything we have given him has been pureed or fork mashed. Today, we tried a little banana in a mesh feeder. I'm not entirely sure what he thought, but I think he liked it. When the piece was gone, he was "searching" the mesh for more. It is an odd looking contraption, but since he has been starting to chew on things, I figured it was worth an attempt. I guess I need to go buy some more bananas!

Next up...
Apples
Sweet Potato and Chicken Dinner
Apples and Apricots

Nighttime Pediatrics

I picked up Wesley from daycare Thursday afternoon. As I entered the center, I saw a notice to parents stating that one of the children was diagnosed with pinkeye and for parents to be on the lookout. Wesley has had a runny nose and a cough for a couple days, but I just figured it was a virus. Now that he is being exposed to more kids, that means more bugs, and I figured he might get sick a couple times until he gets acclimated to all the germs at daycare.

I headed back to the infant room and talked with the director about the sick child and found out it was another infant... "oh great!" I thought, and I scooped up my tired little guy (who was resisting nap time, again!), greeted him with hugs and kisses as he rested his tired little head on my shoulder. I put him in the car seat and he promptly fell asleep as we started the drive home.

He slept in the car, he slept when we got home and when he did wake up, I started to nurse him and he fell asleep in my arms. When he finally woke up (after sleeping for almost two hours!), I took him upstairs to change his diaper and I noticed he felt rather warm. I checked his temperature and sure enough, it was 101.8. We paged our pediatrician and called Nighttime Pediatrics and secured an 8:10 PM appointment.

Now, Nighttime Pediatrics is an after hours care center that also sees adults too. It is for those urgent needs, but nonemergent care. Welsey had a fever and coupled with his symptoms I figured he needed to be seen by a doctor. We headed to the appointment and saw a very nice doctor there. Wesley did not have pink eye, despite the exposure at daycare, but he did have an ear infection and a sinus infection. After some Tylenol and starting his ten day course of antibiotics, he is feeling much better. Nighttime Pediatrics is a GREAT service and should the need arise, we would gladly use them again. They even called the next day to check in and see how Wesley was doing and if he was improving. By the way, he weighed 17lbs 10oz at his appointment.

Eating up a good book at the park

After going into work for a meeting, I took Wesley to the park. When I first sat him down, he was running his hands over the grass. Then I handed him a book which he chewed on a for a bit and then he looked around and pondered his place in the world. He is such an observant baby! Look out world!

8 Months Old Today!

Eight months already! Where has the time gone? This past month has been a biggie... Wesley has learned how to get into a sitting position independently, he got his first tooth and has learned how to crawl. Everyday I am amazed by how big he is getting and how fast time is going by. It makes me thankful I take oodles of pictures and have kept up with this blog. I am doing my best to cherish this time and savor it, but it's like trying to hold back a flood. So many new developments, almost on a daily basis.

It is the little things I am worried about forgetting. When Wesley was itty bitty, he would sit in his bouncer chair and watch "Red Frog" pop out from behind some grass on the toy bar. Today he crawled over to the bouncer, pulled himself up and started reaching for Red Frog. I'm sure Red Frog won't mean anything to him in the future, but it was one of the first inatimate objects that held his interest as a newborn (in addition to ceiling fans). I tried putting Wesley in the bouncer yesterday, and he sat in it for a few minutes. He reached up and played with this little bird on top of the toy bar. When he was tiny, I thought to myself, 'why did they put that bird there? No baby could reach that.' Needless to say, I stand corrected. I was talking about the whole thing with Greg and we discussed about how he couldn't even reach the toys when we first put him in the chair! Ahh the memories!

8 months... the outtakes

Our monthly photoshoot is getting even more challenging! Wesley is on the move all the time now and doesn't sit still for harldy anything! These are a few of our "outtakes" - it was quite challenging getting a few good pics today. Technically speaking, I have some lighting issues to deal with in the nursery. Parentally speaking, it is hard to baby wrangle, get him to smile, be the photographer AND keep him SAFE as he is trying to climb all over! About halfway through taking pictures, I propped the camera on a chair and used a remote shutter release as I attempted to get Wesley to sit and smile. These pictures are completely unedited, uncropped and are "as is." That explains the shark in the middle pic... I was using it to get Wesley's attention. Needless to say, it didn't work!

Daddy & Wesley

We took Wesley to the park after dinner today. I like to take pictures of the little guy every few days and I haven't taken many this past week. So... Daddy helped me snap a few good ones. I don't think he knew he was in quite so many of the good ones! Daddy just has a way of getting Wesley to smile. It is awesome to watch them interact!
