Soccer Star!

Much to Daddy's (and Uncle Steven's) delight, Wesley has learned how to kick a soccer ball.

pics at the park

I've been feeling like I haven't taken eough pictures lately, so I snapped a few when we went to the park. Wesley is going through a phase where eye contact and smiling near the camera is near impossible. I'm not letting that deter me from trying anyway.

Playdate at the park

We were outnumbered, but we decided to attempt a playdate at a local park with all the kids. It was a great afternoon, starting with lunch and then a quick walk to the park. Wesley didn't want to go in the baby swing, so I put him on my lap for a little bit and he really seemed to enjoy it. As usual, his favorite activity was running around and he did the twisty slide a few times. After all that fun we stopped for ice cream cones. Poor Wesley dropped his cone after a few licks and the sweet employee at the ice cream shop gave him a replacement - this time in a bowl.

Hot pizza

Greg was away for the weekend and I didn't do a great job multitasking when it came to cooking dinner and feeding Wesley, so I ate my pizza on the couch after Wesley had his dinner. My pizza was fresh out of the oven when I sat down to eat it and he saw me blowing on it to cool it off. He wanted a bite too, and when I offered it to him he had to blow on it too. It was too cute not to capture on video!

A Wesley pounce

I was trying to get some video of Wesley pointing to his body parts when I name them, but when I called his name to get his attention, he pounced! Greg and I think this video is funny - but quick!

Dog says dog

Wesley isn't a huge talker, but we're working on it! I'd say his first "real" word besides Dada and Mama was 'ball,' soon followed by 'yeah'
He now says:
Ball
Bubble
Milk (sounds more like maak)

and the past couple weeks we have been working on sounds.
Cow says Moo
Kitty says Meow
Choo Choo Train say Choo Choo (sometimes too too)
and
Dog says dog (just so you know!)

The Deck

Daddy took a nap, so Mommy chased the boy around with her camera. I got a couple good shots. Maybe it is the mommy goggles, but I just love that little smile!

On the mend

I think that anesthesia really took a lot out of Wesley and he was pretty high maintenance again today. I couldn't wait for Greg got home from work so I could have a moment to rest! About an hour after he got up he started acting tired, wanted to be held and was very clingy today. It took a lot of energy to keep him entertained, happy and comfortable. And yes, I did give him pain medication just in case he was in pain from his procedure yesterday. But I think Mommy and Daddy are just what the doctor ordered - at least Wesley felt that way!

A rough day with a happy ending!

Wesley had surgery today for a dental issue. Being so young, he wasn't able to be still enough to perform the procedure safely in the office, so he had to go to the hospital and be put to sleep under anesthesia and the whole nine yards. The waking up from anesthesia went a lot smoother this time than it did when he had his tubes placed in October. We think it is partly because they gave him a medication (Versed) to help him relax and partially because they let him sleep until he woke up on his own. Regardless, he was still a sleepy little guy and his whole day was "off." Fortunately the procedure went well and quickly and without complications. Whew!
Since he had to have soft food, we treated him to an ice cream cone. We let him eat it outside and not worry about the mess. After his frosty treat, he went straight into the bath and then it was time for bed. The poor little guy was so tired he fell asleep in my arms.

Ice Cream Dance

We usually go out for dinner on Fridays. This night we went to Friendly's and Wesley got an ice cream cone after he ate all his dinner! I love his happy dance!

Port Discovery is a really great children's museum in downtown Baltimore. I've never been there, but I've always heard good things and we were invited to go with a group. I always thought Wesley wasn't really old enough for this type of museum and it turns out he is just the right age to start hanging out there. Port Discovery has a lot of offerings for children of all ages and some exhibits were a little "old" for him, but we found lots to do and we didn't even venture up to the third floor! There was a bouncy house, a little corridor with a suspended net "floor," a choo choo train, a whole room of toddler toys including a ball crawl. Wesley really liked the Magna Doodle. They had a puppet show that Wesley wasn't really interested in, but I'm sure someday he will enjoy that too.
We were there for about three hours and Wesley played HARD! He was so tuckered out, he fell asleep as soon as we hit the road to come home. Since I had my camera with me (as usual!) I took the opportunity to practice some sleeping toddler pics. That is, until he woke up, and then he really gave me a picture perfect face!

Mother's Day

I haven't had any recent pics of myself with the boy, so Mother's Day was a good excuse to hand Daddy the camera and ask him to take a few snaps. It was a beautiful day and I barely lifted a finger. It was awesome!

It's been a while since we broke out the markers, (gotta LOVE Crayola Color Wonder!), and Wesley gave me a hint when I found him rummaging through my desk drawer. So we went upstairs and I let him color and play. That is, until he started to put the marker in his mouth. At that point I told him "no" and he would pull it out of his mouth and give me a sly little smile. It is so interesting (and frustrating!) to watch toddlers test the rules and watch for reactions. This kid already has his 'who me?' look down pat!

Lovin' the outdoors

Sometimes you just have to experience something to understand it. I always thought parents pushed boys towards cars and trucks, being rough and playing in the dirt. I had no idea boys have a natural instinct to drift towards these things. Boy, was I wrong!
We've been having A LOT of rain these days. Seriously, just about every day for two weeks, or maybe even longer. Wesley just adores the outdoors and when we got home from work/school, I just had to let him enjoy himself outside for a bit. I knew it was muddy, but he was in his school clothes and the overcast day made for some great lighting photography wise. I grabbed my camera and just let go.
If you know me, you might know I hate getting dirty, and I especially hate getting my hands dirty. That being said, once Wesley really got into the mud and yuck, I realized there would be a point I'd have to bring him inside. I then decided we'd wait until Daddy got home and we could all have some fun outside. Then we could tag team Wesley so he could go straight to the bathtub once we were ready to go in. I might have relaxed a bit, but I still had my plan!

First date?

We had a play date with Zoe (sorry, I don't know how to put the two dots over her "e" in Zoe) and had some lunch at Panera Bread. Zoe's mom was getting some food at the counter and the kids just looked so cute, like they were on a date. I had my camera, so I snapped a pic. Who knows, maybe they'll end up together someday...

After some lunch, we had them come over our house for some fun in the yard and to try to share our toys. Of course, they are at that age where they don't really share, but they do want to do whatever the other is doing. There wasn't any major crying or anything, just some fussing when both of them wanted to be in the car or play with the same wagon.

It's tough being a toddler... learning that the world doesn't revolve around your needs 100% of the time. Oh wait, I'm still struggling with that concept.
