This evening we headed over to the Arbutus Fireman's Carnival. It didn't start until 7 and Wesley usually goes to bed around 7:45, so we didn't stay long. Also Wesley is still a little too small to ride the rides just yet. We did put him on the car ride, but the strap was too loose across his lap and it just wasn't safe for him to ride. So, Daddy rode with him on the helicopters. Greg wasn't too sure whether or not Wesley liked the ride. He did great on the banana ride at the zoo the other day, but he seemed a little clingy on the helicopters. Maybe it was the noise, maybe because we were getting close to bedtime, maybe he just wanted to snuggle with his Daddy. After the one and only ride, we walked around a bit and then we headed home. Wesley loved looking at everything, even if he couldn't ride just yet.

This place is a zoo!

I wasn't quite sure Wesley was really old enough for the zoo just yet. We visited the zoo around Easter time and he seemed a little interested in the animals at the time, but not overly excited. That was a couple months ago and we were invited to go to the zoo with a couple playmates, so we decided to join everyone. We arrived soon after the zoo opened and we able to feed the giraffes. I wasn't too sure how Wesley would react, but he held out his little branch and the giraffe slurped it right up. One of the little girls we were with, Zoe, didn't want to feed them, so Wesley got to do it again. He must have remembered how to feed the animals from our trip to the petting zoo while we were in Rochester, I guess.
As far as animals go, the kids were interested in the exhibits, but the petting zoo was so much fun because it was interactive. They all brushed the goats and were all so kind to them. I guess we have some animal lovers on our hands! Then we got some lunch and rode the carousel. Wesley was fine, sitting so proudly on his cheetah, that is... until it started moving. Then he wanted off! Luckily a bench was located right behind us, so I took him off the cheetah and we sat as we rode. I should have known the ride operator was giving me a hint when he told me which animals do not go up and down. Why oh why didn't I listen to him?
But the big hit of the afternoon was the Banana ride. Kira was sweet enough to let Wesley ride with her and she even let him "drive" the little stick that decided whether their banana would go up and down. I think she would have liked to "drive", but she did a great job sharing! Thank you Kira!

Today we went to the Columbia Association's Swansfield Pool. To call it a pool is a bit of an understatement. They have a Splash Pad which is perfect for toddlers to run and play. They also have a toddler pool with a maximum depth of one foot, so even the littlest walkers could wade around. Oh yeah, they have one of those big Olympic sized pools and giant water slide too, that is, if you're into that kind of thing.
For a day in July, it was rather cool day and, thankfully, the water was heated. We went to the pool with our neighbor and her three year old Kira. The kids had so much fun running around, alternating from the splash area and the toddler pool and back and forth. Needless to say, I think they will both sleep well tonight after all that activity!

A few random updates...

I have been a bit of a blog slacker lately. Of course you see lots of entries and photos, but so many little things have been happening and Greg and I marvel at them when they occur, but I don't always take the time to let the world know about the fun we are having. So this is a make up post, or as some of my friends would say "random."

Wesley had an ear infection diagnosed a week ago. He had a cough and a runny nose while we were in Rochester and it got progressively worse. Last Friday he started oozing yellowish-pink stuff out of one ear - ew! I called the pedi and she saw him that day at my insistence. I'm a little peeved they wanted to put us off, but that is another issue. Anyway, he has an ear infection. It is much better now. Yea!

Wesley says "Thank You," "You're Welcome" (aka "Welca") and Beep beep" It is all very cute! He will throw stuff away in the garbage can if you ask him to. This week he has discovered the joys of putting cups and dirty dished in the sink. He is just so proud of himself when he puts stuff away where it belongs. Then again, sometimes we disagree about where something may belong.

The other day I said I needed socks before we went outside. He then went upstairs and got a pair of socks and brought them to me. It was so sweet and cute and I am amazed he did that. However, I needed socks for my feet, not Wesley sized socks - lol!

And my last "random" for now, I haven't nursed Wesley in about 6 weeks. We had been working on the weaning process for a while and it just followed a natural progression. It was work, hard work, inconvenient work, but I met all my breastfeeding goals and it was a true labor of love. I cherish my memories of that time and am so happy with the entire experience. It was nourishing for body, heart, mind and soul for myself and Wesley and it saddens me that it is over. I will miss that special time but the bond remains and that is what is important. I don't specifically remember our last nursing session and if I had known then it would be the last time I probably would have bawled my eyes out. In that respect, I am glad it ended the way it did. I keep this blog for myself as well as a way of sharing with all our family and friends and I just needed to document how it ended. Thanks for reading!

We put it off long enough and it was time for Wesley's first haircut. My bald little baby is growing up and is not bald any longer. As you can see in the "before" pics, it was mostly long in the back and otherwise only needed a trim. Yesterday we headed to the local mall and I took all kinds of pictures and when we checked in, there was no receptionist and the stylist was a little rude when she directed me to sign in. Since Wesley's first haircut was a pretty big deal to me, I didn't want someone with a bum attitude to bring down the fun. So, we walked out and let Wesley play (and play and play) in the play area at the mall.

Today we headed to Pigtails and Crewcuts in Annapolis and it was worth the drive! Before we even entered the salon we were greeted with a smile and the stylists were all so nice. They all knew what an important occasion this was and they helped us document the occasion by providing us with a folder with a lock of his hair and a photo. Of course, I took a few photos too. After all, it was a super cute salon!

The "chairs" for the kids are little vehicles, they had a plane, a police car and a little firetruck. Wesley started off in the firetruck and he just couldn't wait to get in as soon as we walked in. As his haircut went on and he got a little antsy, we moved him into a little airplane. They did have a cartoon playing on the flat screen television they had hanging on the wall next to the station, but Wesley isn't much of a TV guy. He did really well through the entire haircut, and only remotely fussed when the clippers came out. Even so, there were no tears. Once he was done, he had his sights set on the little train table in the waiting area. Now that he has his new haircut, he looks even more like a little boy. Aw, my baby is growing up fast!

It was our last full day in Rochester, so we relaxed a bit and visited a petting zoo. Well, actually it is a local farm that has a small petting zoo. Wesley was so cute... he kept saying "Moo" to all the animals even though there were no cows. It was really funny to see him mooing at all the animals. He was a little shy around the animals at first, but he was very interested in them. He saw all of us feeding the animals and by the end he was ready to help take a turn.
Later that evening the rest of the family joined us and we had another fun evening watching the kids be kids. Eilee and Wesley had some more fun together and when it came time to say goodbye she even gave him a little kiss. It is so neat to watch them interact with each other. It was a great evening and so hard to say goodbye to everyone!

The fourth of July came and we had a BBQ. It was a festive occasion with lots of red, white and blue and the best part was having family and friends near. Of course the kids had a lot of fun and the big hit was a watering can. Wesley and Eilee took turns watering the flowers. Well, I think Wesley got more water on himself than the flowers at first.

If at first you don't succeed

Try try again. It was toddler madness this weekend as I chased after Wesley and his cousin Eilee in my quest for the perfect photo of the two of them. This morning we went over to a neighbor's beautiful garden. It was tough getting both of them to cooperate, but we had a few secret weapons.
