Peek A Boo!

Peek a boo is Wesley's favorite game by far! We can really get him laughing and it is such a joy to see him looking for us, his smiles when he sees us, and his sounds of joy when we suprise him or when he is being ultra clever. It is fun for both Wesley and us.

And he's off!

Wesley started crawling this week. It is so funny, we were really encouraging him to crawl on Sunday and he just wasn't there yet, but on Tuesday everything just clicked. My little one is officially on the move! Watch out world!

Reach for the stars

Every parent wants their child to reach for the stars and shoot for the moon. Wesley has learned how to get to a sitting position by himself and now he can literally reach over and grab whichever star calls him. So, we had to put the mobile away. We are going to be lowering the crib mattress this weekend. Thankfully, he hasn't really started pulling up on things yet, but we don't want him to practice any skydiving maneuvers in the nursery. It is heartbreaking though, when he cries at night, I enter his room and he is sitting up, watching the doorway for me to come to him.

He has been doing pretty good at night lately, after having some major set backs after traveling and then me returning to work and then him being sick. Greg and I have been working with the little guy and he is pretty much sleeping through the night at this point. More on that another day...

Smiley pic

Daddy has this "game" with Wesley where he stands in the kitchen, throws his hands in the air, makes a silly noise and then approaches Wesley and "gets" his feet. It makes him smile and laugh. It is so cute! I LOVE MY GUYS!!!

Why baby swings have seatbelts...

The wheels are spinning

It is always fun watching Wesley learn new concepts and doing new things. Today, he really "got" the sippy cup concept. Ususally I help him get it in his mouth and he plays with the spout. I was feeding him breakfast today, and offered him some water in the cup as usual and after a couple attempts, he put it in his mouth and sucked on the spout and he was actually drinking from it! A HUGE difference from letting water run down his chin and into the pocket of the bib, which I usually forget about, and then spill all over him when I'm supposed to be cleaning him up. He is getting to be a little less messy of an eater. I think he is starting to really "get" this eating thing. Currently, we are only doing solids with breakfast and lunch... dinner might be in the near future.

Wesley is sick today

He has a cold. *sniff* I took him to the doctor's office this afternoon, just to make sure he didn't have an ear infection or anything more serious, but it is just a cold. The doctor also suspected Wesley may be teething based on the amount of drooling he was doing at the office, but it may be a few more weeks, as there are no visual signs of teeth coming through. Greg and I have had a few episodes where we were just sure he was going to cut his first tooth and we've been wrong a couple times, so now we're "I'll believe it when I see it people" as far as teething is concerned. I mean, we know he'll get them eventually, so we're not getting all worked up about it in the meantime. Personally, I love his gummy smile.

In our own backyard

It poured buckets of rain, mixed with bright blue skies. I grabbed my camera during one of the breaks of sunshine, hoping for a rainbow, but got these shots instead.

Wine in the Woods

Today was such a beautiful day we decided to go to Wine In The Woods, an annual wine tasting festival held in Columbia. We sampled many wines offered by local vineyards...

Including Woodhall, a winery my friend Barbara is involved with and she volunteered to help with the wine sampling.
Wesley really enjoyed being out in the fresh air and hanging out with his parents!
His favorite was a 2008 vintage called 'Made With Love' by Mommy. He just guzzled it down!

Making new friends

It was Wesley's first day at daycare today. It was definitely harder on Greg and I than it was on Wesley. It was so surreal this morning, Greg took Wesley to daycare and I was alone in the house for the first time since Wesley was born. It was hard watching them go, but I knew he would be cared for by some very tender people. I called to check up on him at 8:30. I just wanted to see how his morning was going. At that time, he was hanging out in a bouncer chair after he had his breakfast. I felt better after checking in and I resisted temptation to call again, even though I knew I could. I rushed to the center after getting out from work, very anxious to see how his day went. After fighting some traffic, I arrived and headed toward the infant room. There was my sweet boy chewing on a truck. I had to document the occasion, so I snapped a few pictures and then scooped him up for some hugs and kisses. It was like I was never gone. I could tell he was a little overtired and found out he hadn't napped since 11am (I picked him up a little after 4!). He wasn't crying, just not supersmiley. He is a terrible napper. I fed him and chatted with the providers a little bit, snapped a couple more pics and off we went. Needless to say, Wesley was asleep in his carseat before we got to the end of the street.

The apple of my eye

Happy Mother's Day! I got the best card from Welsey. It talked about 'what the smiles mean.' It made me cry. I love being a mom!

7 months old today!

The long week of orientation at my new hospital is finally over! I am only working part time, but had to put in a full week away from my baby just to get up and running at my new job. Today Wesley turned 7 months old (I can't believe it!) and we dressed him in his usual gap onesie and khacki pants for his monthly picture with the sign and "Bo" in "the chair." Our monthly picture taking session is becoming a little more challenging as Wesley is getting more mobile and interested in putting things in his mouth - still no teeth yet. Needless to say, his month-declaring sign sits next to him for all of 5 seconds before promptly going straight into his mouth. I'll stick with our tradition, even if we don't get many pics with the sign. Enjoy!
(On a side note, I am well aware that his socks are too small... old habits die hard and frankly I haven't found any socks that fit and stay on.)
